Fruit Smoothie Recipes with Yogurt

I love yogurt. There, I said it. I am not a strict raw foodist, vegan, vegetarian etc. I do however, like to eat as close to those types of dietary lifestyles as possible while also including my other favorite foods, which for me is dairy, and in this case, fruit smoothies with yogurt.

So now that we got that out of the way, let’s get into why using yogurt can not only be a tasty and tangy addition to your smoothies, but also what kind of health benefits you can gain by incorporating this into your smoothie routine now and again, and in some people’s cases, frequently or with every smoothie they make. Yogurt Benefits:

Coconut Milk Yogurt is a very tasty and creamy dairy alternative, Yum!

For folks who are not lactose intolerant, or simply enjoy dairy and yogurt, a high quality brand yogurt can pack nearly all the calcium you would need for the day, particularly if you’re going to have greens in your smoothies such as spinach or kale which also have high levels of calcium. This is extremely important if your a woman, and even more so as you age, as you ladies out there very likely know, you need to have a fairly generous and regular dose of this vital mineral for your health, particularly for bone strength.

It’s a great way to avoid taking calcium supplements which can be tedious if you are taking other supplements as well every day because remember, it’s always best to get your nutrients from your diet first too. Oh, and if you want that yogurt creaminess without the dairy? Use coconut or soy yogurts which are just as tasty!

Another aspect that I really appreciate, and this goes for both women and men here, is the high amount of protein that you can get into your smoothie. As tasty as a strawberry smoothie might be without yogurt for example, strawberries are not exactly the most protean dense pieces of fruit around.

Now, I know that there are all sorts of other protein alternatives that are also vegan and vegetarian friendly, like using rice protein for example, but for folks who want to get the added benefit of a high amount of protein, like after a work out for example, using 0 fat yogurt is a natural and affordable way to add this to your smoothie while also giving your smoothie much tangier and smoother taste. What Yogurt Brands and Types Do I recommend?

For the record, I tend to prefer using either certified organic yogurt or Chobani brand plain yogurt. The reason I like Chobani is that this particular brand can be purchased in bulk or in small standard 6 ounce containers, while also getting all the benefits of a certified organic product for much more reasonable price (if you go with plain). I know that buying certified organic can be very expensive for most folks out there, and if you’re going to use some extra money to buy organic products, always make sure it’s going towards the produce, and not the added ingredients like yogurt for example if it’s a matter of cost.

Chobani yogurt in particular can be found in most common grocery food stores, so you don’t have to shop at specialty food store like Whole Foods or Trader Joes to find this. This yogurt is made with no artificial growth hormones, artificial flavors, and best of all, it is a Greek yogurt, so it has twice the protein of typical yield rich you find in the supermarket and it’s also much creamier.
