Berries. You love them, I love them, we all love them. In smoothie recipes though? They are simply the best, and I thought what better combo then to marry strawberries and blueberries together in one delicious strawberry blueberry smoothie recipe with yogurt!
Now I also have a small love affair with yogurt, of both dairy and non diary varieties and I also wanted to include some of that in this yummy recipe too. Now you can use a variety of different yogurts with this type of smoothie, but I find I like to have the blueberries and strawberries really shine through, so I use a more neutral vanilla flavored non fat Greek yogurt.
Now there are two varieties of blueberries you can go with, cultivated which are the only type you can buy fresh, or wild blueberries which are smaller, more intense in flavor, and can only generally be found frozen, particularly if you want to stick with only certified organic, which I tend to do for myself and my family.
Wild blueberries also happen to be much higher in naturally occurring antioxidants, so I usually go with those. Also, be sure to only buy fresh organic strawberries, as they are very susceptible to pesticides, just like other types of berries. On to the recipe!
Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie Recipe with Yogurt
- 1 cup filtered water
- 1 cup vanilla non fat Greek yogurt
- 2 cups frozen wild blueberries
- 2 cups fresh chopped strawberries
- 1 tsp of organic ground Stevia for 0 calorie sweetening
- Pour in your water into the blender first
- Then add in your Greek yogurt
- Follow that up with your fresh strawberry chunks
- Then finally add in your frozen blueberries and stevia
- Blend until desired consistency
Servings (yield) : 2-3 servings
Notes : If you want slightly less yogurt, you can opt to go with 1-1/2 cups of water and just half a cup of yogurt, but I find the yogurt helps this smoothie be extra creamy and luxurious personally, so I stick with the full cup. One of my go to brands for organic Greek yogurt is Stoneyfield’s oikos brand, they sell the vanilla and plain flavors as large as 1lb tubs. Yum!
